Peely Wally Level 17

I will visit the beach once I am less peely wally

This Peely Wally post was originally published in January 2020.

Peely Wally Levels

Level 17 is actually an improvement. I think I was level 25 last week. But then I’m not the best when it comes to self assessment. In my last post I stated that I was ‘recovering from flu.’ Three days later I was admitted to hospital with pneumonia and a collapsed lung. And there I stayed for three weeks, receiving the most incredible care.

Wow, NHS.

Wow, nurses.

The picture is an old one, but it is my first post-pneumonia ambition. I will walk onto a beach sometime soon.

So, normal service will be resumed as the Peely Wally levels reduce. I hope you all had a good holiday time, if you celebrate, and that 2020 is a wonderful year!

SISTERS AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD with a misty mountain view

Set in 1st century Scotland, my novel SISTERS AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD includes the battle of Mons Graupius between the Romans and the Caledonian tribes. The book features a neurodivergent main character and some rather complicated romance.

Review from Terry Tyler: “It’s a fabulous story, a real page-turner and so well written. It made me think about the passage and circle of time, of the constancy of the land on which we live and the transient nature of human life. Loved it.

  1. Poor you! Especially over the festive period when it seems that just about everyone else is having fun. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

  2. Good old NHS! Glad to hear you’re on the mend. That beach does look magnificent, what a great recuperation spur. Happy New Year.

  3. ‘Peely Wally’ was a new one for me (I’m from south of the border!) but Professor Google soon sorted me out. Sounds like you’ve had a wretched time, but the good old NHS has come up trumps again. Slow but steady and you’ll soon be on that beach. Take care

  4. I always thought peelywally was one word, but it always reminds me of my Mum when I see or hear it. She was a proud Scot too. Something in the air? Two great, female, Scottish authors catching a bad lurgy at the end of the year: you and Kerry Hudson! Hope you fully recover soon, take care, lots of love and Happy New Year!

  5. YIKES, that’s terrible! My mom had pneumonia the week before Christmas and my husband and I have been battling some awful sickness since around the same time. Here I sit, with 2 ear infections and a sinus infection and it seems like antibiotics are not working for the first time in my life. I have no idea what this illness is that’s going around (apparently overseas too) but it’s awful!
    Glad you’re doing better.

  6. Hi Ailish, Many more wishes for your good recovery. I did read The Mermaid and the Bear and enjoyed it tremendously. Your writing is very skillful and I liked the world you created with combining research and real social issues with some fantasy.

  7. I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been so very ill! I hope 2020 brings you better health and more wonderful writing. I just download THE MERMAID AND THE BEAR. I need a good escape from the winter doldrums.

  8. I’m glad you’re doing better now. Yeah, the flu is no joke.

Will you be blogging about your first post-flu walk on the beach? That’s such a lovely goal.

  9. How dreadful for you! I have nothing but praise for the NHS staff and the ambulance crews. I am pleased to see that you are now on the mend. Take care, Ailish and I hope that now you will have a very happy new year!
