Sometimes the sea is all we need…
A mellow walk on the beach. A moment to catch our breath.
We start high up on the dunes and push our way through the long grasses, side-stepping to avoid the many large snails that live there, and then we walk onto the sand.
There we stare out over the wonderful, wonderful sea; it is showing green today. We stand and breathe the sweet air, and feel the gentle breeze on our faces.
It doesn’t stay bright and gentle for long. As is so often the way in Scotland, the weather is subject to swift change. By the time we leave the beach, the wind – a breeze no more – is swirling dark clouds over Tiger Hill, the largest dune on the skyline.
The star of today’s little blog has been: Fraserburgh beach!
I needed that breath of sea air today.
Let’s end on an, albeit metaphorical, oceanic quote from SISTERS AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD.
A Dancer’s Journey – a contemporary series
These books are so naughty that I’m a little worried nobody will be able to look me in the face again after reading them. But not that worried. They’re dancing out into the world right now.
When dance student Amalphia Treadwell embarks on a secret relationship with her charismatic new teacher, she has no idea of the danger that lurks in his school in Scotland…

Historical Dark and Romantic Books
My historical novels combine little-known dark events with love stories and a hint of magic.
- SISTERS AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD: ancient battle, neurodiversity and forbidden romance.
- THE MERMAID AND THE BEAR: witchcraft, a stone circle, a castle and six chapters of medieval Christmas.
- FIREFLIES AND CHOCOLATE: kidnapping, friendship and chocolate.

Beautiful, love the colour and movement of the grass.
It it beautiful there.
Lovely. Congratulations on the 5* review.
Thank you 🙂
Love your photos of Scotland! I’m curious. What have you found to be the pros/cons of writing in first person as opposed to third-person omniscient?
I only use this style in blog posts occasionally. It gives the sense of taking the reader with me.
beautiful!
Glad you like 🙂
Beautiful pictures, what a fantastic beach.
Good luck with the release. That’s a lovely extract.
Thank you 🙂
Well. I came here for the photos but stayed for the book. I didn’t know you had one due out. And in little over than a week! Congratulations! Off to check that out! Cheers.

Utterly freezing.

What a beautiful text (and pictures as well!). So calming and taking me right back to my time in scotland 🙂
I’m glad you enjoyed the post 🙂
Love the coastal pics and words and my time by the sea in the East Neuk in the last few days.A stunning part of the world!
We do have some great coastlines in Scotland.
Your photos and text make me want to visit Scotland again. Thank you.
I hope you get the chance!
A lovely interlude, and the scene changes before our eyes.
I love those rapid changes in the landscape.
I can see why.
Nothing quite like the sea and a duney grassy beach
Indeed 🙂
I will be in Scotland in two years. Can’t wait to visit your beautiful land.
I hope you have a great time when you get here!
The beach is my mind clearing place too! The salty air, the feel of sand, the sound of the wind and water.
It is a place to find balance 🙂
Nothing better than a trip to the beach, especially a windswept one with sand dunes! Beautiful photos!
Beach visits are great 🙂
🙂
Not too unlike our Florida coast. Thank you for sharing the beauty.
I’m glad you liked it 🙂
Ahhhh, the beach is my happy place. Your words and photos bring me a deep breath today! Thank you 🙂
I’m glad you liked it 🙂
Love the colours even in November!! Reminds me of that time the Thai tourist board used a photo of a Scottish beach to market a Thai island 😉
I didn’t know about that!
Must have been about 8 years ago I think. The Thai Tourist Board were looking to show off their gorgeous beaches but there were just too many people in the shots, so, I believe they lifted one from a Scottish beach. Alas, I cant recall which one, maybe the west coast?
There are a lot of empty golden beaches over on the West.
The sea is a beautiful place. I love the ocean near where I live.
It is magical.
Love the pictures and the words together. The long tall grass at the water feels to me like it is waving to come on down and enjoy.
It is like that, the dunes leading down to the sea.
Gorgeous beach and beautiful words. Best of luck for the release I stumbled upon the blog today and loved it. Would be glad if you could review some of my work.
I’ll have a look at your blog again, later 🙂
Gorgeous ✨
A special place to relax and clear the head. Thanks for the photos, Ailish.
You’re most welcome 🙂
I can recall some beautiful spring days on the Aberdeenshire coast when I used to travel there for business, equally some fierce coastal winds. [ie not always gentle breezes!]
Indeed, it is often fierce here.
Wonderful! I don’t have the sea here. Though I could see living near one. In the meantime, I study the moods of the sky, knowing that it shares with the sea.
Yes, it does 🙂
Ocean walks are amazing!
They really are.
