Of all of the big trees I know, the twisty beech at Aden Country Park is one of the most beautiful. I love the intricate nature of its trunk.
There’s a tiny squirrel there under the, also slightly twisted, copper beeches.
The river winds slowly through the lower parts of the park, flanked by more big trees as it goes.
Colder temperatures are predicted from tomorrow. Autumn is coming to an end. It’s been a great one, this year, though. Leafy and golden and bright.

The Mermaid and the Bear
Isobell needs to escape. She has to. Her life depends on it.
Set in a fictional castle in Aberdeenshire, THE MERMAID AND THE BEAR blends an often overlooked period of history, the Scottish witchcraft accusations, in particular the 1597 Aberdeen witchcraft panic, with a love story.

“A delight from end to end…” Undiscovered Scotland
Fireflies and Chocolate
When Elizabeth is torn out of her isolated life in a Scottish castle, she embarks on a determined quest to return home. Exhilarating adventures unfold on the high seas, love blossoms, and the chocolate, purchased in Benjamin Franklin’s printing shop, is delicious!
The story was inspired by the 600 children and young people who were kidnapped from Aberdeen during the 1740s and sold into indentured servitude in the American Colonies.

Autumn in Scotland — why did my ancestor’s leave?
Thanks for sharing so much beauty.
I’m glad you enjoyed it, Julie 🙂
Great photos (though I don’t see the squirrel). It was a wonderful autumn here in Atlantic Canada, also,
The squirrel is indistinct… I’m glad your autumn was great too.
those skies and trees must have so many stories to tell
Some of them are quite ancient.
Thank you for the nice tour of Aden County Park.
You’re welcome 🙂
Beautiful pictures, Ailish! The bark on the twisty beech is quite fascinating.
It is a strange tree. I don’t know how it came to grow in that way.
It’s a mystery of nature.
How wonderful to enjoy a golden, gorgeous fall for you. Ours wasn’t so great. It showed up late this year, then winds came and whisked away the colorful leaves. So disappointing. It’s my favorite time of year.
Your photos are lovely.
Oh, that’s a shame. I hope you get a better autumn next year. Sometimes we get early frosts that spoil ours.
So beautiful. We’re awaiting our first snow here, too.
Ours arrived today.
So many trees seem to have human faces. The twisty beech is no exception: eyes, nose, and very long arms
It is rather anthropomorphic.
Wonderful big tree. Awesome Beauty Autumn.
